“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”1 Samuel 16:11 NLT
Are you the one standing on the outside looking in at all the accomplishments of others? Do you think that would be a great job for someone like her or him? Never really feeling like you are the one. Perhaps you have been “Belittled” by people around you. Rest assured that the standards of the world are not how God calls his children.
The Prophet Samuel was looking for the next king. Jesse brought all of his sons that he thought would make a great king before him, but none of them were who God had chosen to be the next king. Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” He had looked at quite a few tall handsome men. There were “King ready” by the standards of the people.
But there was still one, the youngest, out watching the sheep and goats. David was on the outside. They had to send and get him. Surely God had not chosen him. When he arrived from the fields Samuel anointed him to be the next King. He was an unlikely person. In the most unlikely place but God chose him.
Do you feel that tug in your spirit? You know that God is calling you, but you wonder how can it be you. Your heart is ready. His word says that, “People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” There are Christians at home, in churches, on their jobs, and all over the world answering the call of Jesus.
Is He calling you? Say yes, because God calls unlikely people out of unusual places. You have the heart to work in God’s kingdom.
Yours in Christ,
