The song “Wade in the Water” (See Reference 1 Below) keeps coming to me. Do you ever just get a song in your spirit over and over again? Why should we wade in the water? God sent Moses to free the Israelites. Moses touched the Rod to the Red Sea and they crossed on dry land and were delivered from their enemies. The Egyptians drowned when the walls of water came rushing down to fill in the sea. Why should we wade in the water? For the Israelites deliverance was waiting in the water.
My ancestors told us that God sent more than one Moses. That back down in the south, during the time of legalized slavery there was another Moses. She was raised from the midst of them with dark skin and black hair. She became the God-fearing leader of the runaway slaves. She was known as Harriet Tubman. (See Reference 2 Below). It is believed that she would sing “Wade in the Water” and our people would know that by either life or death deliverance had come. They would run to the water seeking freedom. The water was not just a meeting place, it also covered their scents from the dogs. For the Negro slaves freedom was in the water.
But why is my soul singing “Wade in the water” now? I can only think that for years together we have been streaming tears due to injustice. Covid-19 is wiping out our families during this pandemic and they are dying alone. It is devastating. Once again, our souls are seeking deliverance from heartache and pain; and the songs of our ancestors are being brought forth through the Spirit of God.
Wade in the water, wade in the water my children, wade in the living water of Jesus Christ. There is covering in the water. There is freedom in the water. There is deliverance from heartache, pain and sin in the water. There is peace in the water that only God can give. We no longer have to cross the Red Sea, or run into the river for covering.
As we march through the streets all over the world may our souls be healed as we drink from the well of living water. “Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” John 4:10 NLT. “For His anger is but for a moment, but His favor is for a lifetime or in His favor is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. [II Cor. 4:17.]” Psalm 30:5 AMPC.
