The Time for Equality is Now

The Time For Equality Is Now
Listen

Like many of you, we have spent the past few days grieving the tragic loss of George Floyd.  This past Friday we shared in the memorial and celebration of the life of George Floyd.

We listened to the eulogy that was delivered by Rev. Al Sharpton as he provided the scripture: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV  Rev. Sharpton pointed out “This is the time, we will not stop until we change the system of justice”. But Rev. Al also pointed out that when tragedies like this dash our hopes. We should remember that there is a sister of hope which is Faith.  We have come this far by Faith, and God will make a way for His children.

But even before we shared in the memorial and celebration of George Floyd’s life, we watched as the Governor of Virginia removed the Robert E. Lee confederate memorials. But as was also pointed out during this ceremony, there are more confederate memorials: There remains the memorials to unfair housing opportunities, disparities in access to education and healthcare, and the memorial of unequal access to economic opportunities.

Racism must come to an end.  And these symbols of racism must come to an end as well. We remain hopeful. We are confident that God will use His Gospel and His people as instruments of peace.

Please consider joining us as we pray daily on our knees for our community, our nation, its people, and our leaders. We are praying for God to change the hearts of this nation.
