Apostle Paul wrote, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:15-20 NLT
Apostle Paul has been explaining to the Christians how to imitate God. He wrote for us to show love and be a light in this world. He was saying to them don’t be evil, immoral, impure, greedy and ungodly. In other words, “So be careful how you live.” This has certainly touched my spirit while living through this Covid-19 times. Most of us have become little disciples sounding the words of Paul “Be careful how you live.” That includes showing Godly love by taking care of your neighbors, by washing your hands, covering your face when coughing, wearing masks to protect each other, and helping people with underlying conditions survive.
There are certainly many more things to add to the list of imitating God. But, the anxiety levels alone in our communities are also causing some foolish living. Throwing large parties and spreading Covid-19. Deciding that masks are not necessary because you are invincible. Of course, we can think of many more examples. Every day we hear of it. Yet, be careful and stay safe are our words of love to each other. We use and hear them all day long. We say them to our loved ones and even strangers. The community has made signs for our first responders, and our grocery store workers whom we don’t know. But, we are thankful for them.
It is important how we live. Living wisely means, “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do” Ephesians 5:17. We are also instructed to “make the most out of every opportunity” Ephesians 5:16. Every day we see these verses come alive. In our neighbors who are up helping instead of sitting and complaining. They are making masks, converting their shops and restaurants to help feed people in need and people on the front-lines. There are so many of us helping others. It is awesome. But, don’t be shocked when you see terrible things because evil and foolishness are present and busy. They are always seeking opportunities.
We encourage you to live wisely. Let Jesus lead you through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives inside all who have accepted Jesus as their savior. Apostle Paul was warning us to be lights because we live in “evil days.” We still live in “evil days.” Surely, God can help us through this time. We continue to pray for God to protect us through dangers seen and unseen. He is listening. Having heard the Apostle Paul through the leadings of the Holy Spirit, we say, “be careful, stay safe, and live wisely.”
