Obedience in Hard Times

Obedience in Hard Times
Listen

Our small group is continuing our study in the “Story” Bible. We are in chapter 4 which describes the story of Joseph. As you may remember, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, and wound up as a slave in the household of Potiphar who was the captain of Pharaoh’s army. An important man. We see in Genesis 39:2 (NIV) “The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.”

Because of Joseph’s faithfulness, and because of God’s favor in Joseph’s life, Potiphar made Joseph the head of his household.

What does this tell us about how we should respond to hard times? We have to keep our focus on what God is calling us to do! Be faithful to our calling and to God’s purpose in our lives.

As Pastor Randy Fraser points out in this lesson, Joseph was able to forgive the people in his life that had done him harm by always staying focused on God’s plan. God used all of the hardship in Joseph’s life to save Joseph’s family. The hardship had a divine purpose.

Joseph’s perspective on hardship teaches us how to view tough times in our own lives. Even pandemics can be used by God to fulfill His will in our lives. Let us keep looking up. God is working in our lives. Romans 8:28 (NIV) “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
