Re-posting a blog that we shared in 2017 that fits today
At a bus stop in Baltimore, MD. A lady waits for her husband to get off the metro bus. A warm hug on a crisp day, and they walk hand in hand.
Driving past a school, some of rooms are still lighted on this early summer night. Inside these rooms are handmade artworks: pictures of horses, dogs, and stick figure families. The children that drew these scenes have left school for the day, happily running behind mothers with strollers and younger siblings. Home to warm dry houses, lighted windows, and dinner around nice tables.
A few months later, we find a different scene. The government shutdown has brought uncertainty. While the shutdown has ended not all workers will get back pay. People have not received paychecks for a month while some are still going to work. Bills have piled up. People are afraid and stressed. Lives have been disrupted. We are compelled to help. We have all seen and read about the stories in the news, the need is great.
The Bible tells us in Romans 12:13 NLT “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them.” There are many ways to help: donate to not-for-profits charities or your local food banks, support Go fund me’s, check on your neighbors and see what they may need. But mostly you need to understand that the time to help is now.
Just want all of you government workers to know that we are with you in thoughts and in prayers.
