We Shall Wear a Crown

Listen

We see a story about God’s provision for the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17: 5-6 (NIV) ‘So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. ‘

The Kerith Ravine is significant to this story because it provided a natural hiding place for Elijah who was seeking refuge from King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. They were trying to kill Elijah because he prophesied against the idolatry of the nation of Israel, and said that God would send a drought to the nation of Israel because of It’s idolatry. So God directed Elijah to go to the Kerith Ravine, and the Ravens brought him food.

As Christian believers, our hiding place is in the Will of God. As believers, we know that God will take care of us just like he did with Elijah. I remember one time many years ago, I pulled into the parking lot at work, and I was wondering how I was going to pay for my lunch. I didn’t have any money, but, on the car seat next to me was a card from my Aunt, who was a senior citizen.

I opened the card, and there was enough money for me to eat lunch that day!  The miracle is that my aunt used to send me money while I was in college, but on this one day she had decided to send me money even though I was out of college, married, and had children. That day, I definitely needed a card from her.

God will use whatever He needs to use to bless His children! He can use a card from an aunt, or He can use a raven. BibleHub.com  gives a good illustration of this “God miraculously provided for Elijah. The use of ravens, which were considered unclean animals according to Levitical law, to deliver food to Elijah underscores the sovereignty of God in using all of creation to fulfill His purposes.”  (Reference in BibleHub, https://biblehub.com/topical/k/kerith.htm

Today, we are just going to Trust God, and thank Him for His goodness to us.
