The Cloud and The Fire to the Glory of God

In our study through the Bible, we find God speaking to Moses, “Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you.” Exodus 34:10 NIV. What an amazing promise coming from God. The world would now see just how glorious He is through the lives of the Israelites.

A masterful framework was put in place for them to follow. He gave them the covenant law called the Ten Commandments. He instructed them how to build the Tabernacle, a Holy Tent that would hold a lamp stand, the table for scared bread, and the Ark of Covenant. A place that God himself would fill with His presence. “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. So, the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.” Exodus 40:34-38 NIV

Can we see the lessons that God is teaching? The last few weeks He taught the Israelites to trust Him that He will provide them with Manna and Quail. God taught them that He fights the battles before they ever begin. If we just obey Him.!! God through His Covenant is teaching them to obey his laws, follow Him and He will do “Wonders never before done.”

Now God is with them in the tabernacle that He had them build. Not only is He with them but they didn’t move unless the cloud had assented. When God said let’s go then that is what they did. We move when God shows us it is time to move. They are taught there is always a way to see God. He is always with us. He will always lead us. To God be the Glory! Keep reading, there are many more lessons in these scriptures alone. Let us apply the lessons of trust and obedience, look for God’s Glory being shown through your life, and follow His leading. Know that we serve a mighty God and nothing is too hard for Him.

The Israelites needed a physical temple that they carried around until Jesus became the only sacrifice needed, and sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. We are now the Temple of the Holy Spirit. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” 1 Corinthians 6:19 NIV “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Romans 15:4 NIV

We will address this again in the New Testament. In the meantime, check out earlier blogs on the Holy Spirit and our lessons through Genesis. Comment on the post and let chat.
