Summertime In The Park

Summertime in the Park
Listen

Summertime in the park. There is a mix of lawn chairs, kids with glow sticks chasing each other, and the music. The band did not disappoint with an extended rendition of Eric Clapton’s “Before They Bring the Curtain Down”.  This song has memories for me. I used to sit at the family kitchen table, working algebra problems and listening to my mix tape with Clapton, The Who, etc.

This was a special time for me. I was a baby Christian, and everything was new to me. I would think of the old Negro spiritual that spoke about, “I looked at my hands, my hands looked new. I looked at my feet and they did too”

In his song “As”, the great songwriter Stevie Wonder writes: “All that is born is new”. Stevie Wonder is a great songwriter, and he is telling us how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. As believers, we are new creatures. We see the Apostle Paul write about this in his letter to the church at Corinth: (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV) “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

The world is waking up from a very difficult time. Perhaps you are feeling like you want something new in your life. If you really want something new in your life, just try Jesus. Jesus came to give us new life, and He promised to make us a new creation.

Trust Jesus with your life. He will make you new.

Blessings to you,
