Prayer and The Armor of God

We need to be people of prayer because prayer accesses the blessings that God has already provided for us. Below is a clip from Priscilla Shirer‘s movie “The War Room” that describes how important prayer is to spiritual warfare.

Priscilla Shirer also has a good teaching series on Spiritual warfare called “The Armor of God”. Below, we will share a short summary from her sermon: “The Armor”

We will focus on two of our weapons of spiritual warfare: The Belt of Truth, and the Breastplate of Righteousness.

     
       “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,” Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)

     1. The first century Roman soldiers put on belts first. The Truth holds up righteousness. We can’t hold up righteousness by ourselves. 

    2. In the first century, when believers converted, they read the Old Testament. We believe when they read about the Breastplate of Righteousness, they recognized it as the same Breastplate that Isaiah described for God Himself. In essence, Apostle Paul is telling us that we are wearing the same Breastplate that God designed for Himself!

           “He put on righteousness as his breastplate,and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.” Isaiah 59:17 (NIV)

Here are some questions for you to reflect on:

Question: Why is the Belt of Truth important?  
Hint: Everything rests on the Belt of Truth.

Question: How do we let peace rule our hearts?
Hint: In critical times in your life, God sends even more peace (Grace) to use.

Question: How do we prepare ourselves to receive a specific Word from the Lord for a given situation?
Hint: We need to “Stay Ready”
