Personal Testimony

Listen

In July 2018 we were moving out of our house. It was very hot and I was moving boxes up a set of stairs and collecting them outside so that we could put them on the truck. While I was moving boxes, I was thinking about a professional relationship I had that was very challenging. That relationship had been very rough over the years. So right there under that hot July sun, I stopped, and I prayed.

I told the Lord that I wanted to help that person be successful, and that I was going to do everything I could to help that person be successful. (Notice that I prayed to make the person be successful, NOT for our relationship to be successful). And as soon as I prayed that prayer, it felt like lightning went from my head down to my feet. I’ve never felt anything like that in Prayer ever! I felt a surge of peace and clarity.

Maybe a year later I had an opportunity to help this person that I didn’t see coming. I just need to tell you the relationship actually got worse! But it didn’t matter because my perspective had changed, I wasn’t there for a rosy relationship. Inspired by Colossians 3:23(NIV) ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

I was committed to my purpose of helping them succeed. I told Jesus that I wanted to make the person successful so I traded in all of my previous grievances, in exchange for the purpose to help that person. This experience taught me the power of a prayer of surrender.

We Need Prayer and Fasting to Confront Evil

This blog is inspired by my wife Pastor June R. McIntosh, who preached a sermon this weekend to our congregation about “Why Faith?”. In the new year, we are going to examine different aspects of “Why Faith”.This is not a study questioning faith, but seeking to understand it in our lives.

The Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”
