Monday Morning. McDonalds. The scene includes people on their way to work. People who need to get a bite to eat and be on their way. Painters with their white shirts and pants, retired Military vets with their baseball hats complete with ship names and pins, personal trainers, and others. I watch as the manager goes over and serves the construction workers a platter of food with her complements.
The original McDonald’s was started in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. However, the modern version of the McDonald’s chain dates to 1955, when Ray Kroc opened the ninth location in the chain (Reference: Wikipedia article “McDonald’s”.)That year, the cost of a hamburger was 15 cents.
As our good friend Pastor Rob says: “What we need here is a good question.” Why has McDonald’s been so successful for so long. The reason this organization has been so successful for so many years is that they are committed to one thing: selling a good hamburger.
Why are we committed to sharing the Gospel of Christ? I can think of lots of things: growth, relevance, outreach. But only one thing matters: Jesus. We love Jesus. For us to be successful, we must continue to live out our love for Jesus, our love for the people around us, and our love for the world. Nothing else needs priority. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Here is one of our favorite songs that express how we fell about being in love with Jesus
