Does the Future Make you Nervous?

Listen

I was reading a plan in the YouVersion Bible app entitled “Everything You Need” (a study from John 15). The first thing the study asks is: “Does the future make you nervous?”. I further ask, “Are you wondering about what is going to happen? Are you truly nervous about things in your life?” Perhaps your family, kids, job and bills come to mind in those thoughts.

I can tell you what Jesus said to his nervous disciples: John 14:1 (NIV) “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” The disciples knew he had to leave and were very upset. Jesus told them that he would send the Holy Spirit to comfort them. John 14:15-17 (NIV) “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

As a child of God, your future is in his hands. He has a plan for you and the Holy Spirit is here to help you. The Holy Spirit (advocate) is here to help you in any situation. Worried or nervous, trust the Lord to bring you through. He will extend his grace and mercy. I have seen the Lord come through in some incredible circumstances in our lives, including illness, and hardships. He is all powerful and nothing is too great for him to handle.

In the midst of whatever you are going through, just remember what Jesus instructed the disciples and to us today. John 15:7-8 (NIV) “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” There are times when God says “No” but only he knows the future. Put your future in God’s hands and let him lead you into a future with joy.
