Accepting Your Calling

First, Jesus met Simon and Andrew right where they were, fishing. The skills to be fishermen made them ready to understand what Jesus was going to say to them. He met them right where they were in life. Their response proved that they had faith and a willing heart. Mark 1:17-18 (NIV) “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him.”

Jesus did not change what they were doing. He just took their knowledge and turned it around for God to use. Do you think that you can’t be called by Jesus? Do you feel like you can only do one thing? Simon and Andrew gave up the sea, to go into the world and disciple people. They were the first disciples to be on the journey with Jesus to save many lives. Others would come to accept their calling too.  

Listen, Jesus knows all of the possibilities in your life. Read the story of Joseph in the Bible. After all he had been through, he came to this conclusion: Genesis 50:20 (NIV) “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”  
Joseph went through jealousy, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment but he held on to the Lord and God made it so he could save his family. Jesus is still saying come, follow me. Have you had that tug in your spirit, perhaps a small still voice, or an understanding from the scripture?

“Come” and “Follow” both require action on your part. You have to move in the direction of Jesus when he is leading you. You have to take a faith walk and say yes to his will.  Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”  Again, “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Mark 1:17 (NIV)
