Why Do We Have Labor Day?

Why Do We Have Labor Day?
Listen

Morning at my favorite breakfast and burger fast food restaurant. The scene includes those work-a-day people on their way and in a hurry. Painters with their white shirts and white pants, construction workers starting their day, retired Military vets with their baseball hats complete with ship names and pins, personal trainers, friends.

The manager of that restaurant personally hands each of those workers their meal along with some welcoming words. She believes in her customers.
This is the spirit of Labor Day. Labor Day was established to honor the labor of ordinary people. They work hard so that they can take care of their responsibilities. But who takes care of them?

Let’s look at the words of Jesus: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Jesus takes care of those who labor. He even asks us to let Him take our burden. The reason Jesus continues to be relevant in our society is because He cares about what we care about. He cares about our lives, right down to where we live.

As our Pastor Rob says, “What we need here is a good question”. The question: Jesus cares about us, what do we care about? “And Jesus said unto them, come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.” Mark 1:17-18 KJV

Only one commitment matters, Jesus. For our success, no other labor will be as fruitful or productive as what we do for the Lord. we only need to be committed to Jesus.
