Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians Church, wrote a prayer of thanksgiving. “We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 NLT
He gave thanks to the whole Thessalonian Church. It was a new church that Paul and Silas founded before having to leave the city abruptly. He wanted them to know that they were praying to God the Father on their behalf and that they were not forgotten.
He also gave thanks for their faithful work “(probably Christian Service).” He gave thanks for their loving deeds thought to be “manual labor.” Paul and Silas worked hard while they were in Thessalonica developing the church. He directly mentioned their enduring hope that Jesus was coming back again to receive His church. This hope allowed them to endure the persecution that they were now under because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
How do you pray for others in your family, church, friends and even your enemies? Not everyone was working or being faithful in the Thessalonian Church. But that did not deter Paul from praying a prayer of thanksgiving for everyone. How do you see prayer? Is it always in terms of asking for something?
