Jesus Is Our Good Foundation

Listen

This blog is based on a blog originally published on Nov 23, 2014. The original blog was based on my experience at a Men’s Retreat (at Meadowkirk Retreat Center) with our good friends at Centreville Presbyterian Church (CPC).

On this retreat, I had the experience of seeing the sunrise at the Branton Observatory. This Observatory is named for Henry Coxe Branton who was also a Presbyterian Elder.  The inscription on the observatory was in dedication to the Glory of God as described in Psalms 19:1 (NIV)

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

On one morning, I had the opportunity to see God showing off. As the sun came up, there were roosters crowing, a braying donkey, birds, geese, and wild turkeys. All awakening and praising God.

In my time as a Presbyterian Elder at CPC, I also had the opportunity to serve Communion. I was struck by the wide variety of people in our congregation, young, old, black, white, brown, tall, not so tall. The Holy Communion highlights that God is at work throughout all types of people.

The Message Bible shares the story of the feeding of the five thousand.  Much like our Communion celebrations, Jesus saw the crowd and had compassion on them. Mark 6:39-44 (Message Bible)

Jesus got them all to sit down in groups of fifty or a hundred—they looked like a patchwork quilt of wildflowers spread out on the green grass! He took the five loaves and two fish, lifted his face to heaven in prayer, blessed, broke, and gave the bread to the disciples, and the disciples in turn gave it to the people. He did the same with the fish. They all ate their fill. The disciples gathered twelve baskets of leftovers. More than five thousand were at the supper.

The message here is that Jesus provided for the five thousand, and He is providing for us.  We are in uncertain times, but Jesus is our good foundation. 1 Timothy 6:19 (KJV)

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

We are praying for you.  Let us all put our trust on the good foundation of Jesus.

God Bless You,

Pastors Willie and Rochelle McIntosh
