Three weekends ago on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 the “Murals 4 Morganton” project unveiled three new public art murals in Morganton, NC. One of these projects is called “Mountain Matriarchs: Women at Work,” and features the image of our own dear Mrs. Nettie McGimpsey McIntosh.
The “Mountain Matriarchs” mural was designed by Claire Alexandre, with mentorship from Greta McLean of the Community Mural Institute. This work of art celebrates the contributions of women in Burke County, from within the home to community leadership. The mural’s design is centered around three women, selected through a community-driven process, who illustrate themes of motherhood, leadership, mentorship, and perseverance.
The mural aims to reflect the diverse and rich lives of women in Morganton, capturing their strength, potential, and continuous commitment to community. We appreciate the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in bringing these murals to life.
