Answers for the New Year
Listen

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV

Isaiah proclaimed that the Lord was doing a new thing. The scripture basically said to forget that old stuff, and stop dwelling on the past. Jesus said, “I am doing a new thing!” A new thing with an exclamation point. How many of you have ever felt confused and despondent about things just not going your way? or that life is passing you by? Have you ever wondered where has the time gone because it is Christmas already? Have you felt like you just can’t seem to keep up? We all have experienced some type of wilderness and desert. Some sense of time lost, loneliness, or great need.

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38 NIV

But the Lord said, I have a new thing happening. Can’t you feel it, can’t you perceive it? I’m going to make a way in the wilderness and put streams of water in the desert. Jesus will renew your dry places, be your help in the hard times, in dark times, and in those crazy I can’t explain it times. We just need to keep leaning on His Word.

Isaiah prophesied about it, and Jesus came to make it happen. He said if you are thirsty, believe in me, come to me, and I will give you living water that flows from within. Isaiah said that it was going to spring up. Jesus said let it flow like a river. What were they saying? Let the Holy Spirit fill your every thirst. Jesus gave us the Living Water.

“On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” John 7:37-38 NLT  (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)” John 7:39 NLT

Hear the words of the prophet as they were fulfilled by Jesus. During this new year, forget about the former things, don’t dwell on the past, Jesus has already made a path through the wilderness. He has given us the Holy Spirit to help guide our lives in every way.

We will go through magnificent times, loving times and difficult times in our lives, but a path has already been made and the Holy Spirit dwells within all who believe. Life is not a journey that we have to make alone. Trust Jesus to make it with you. Jesus said, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:34 NLT
