Celebrating Jesus This Easter Season 🌸

Listen

Today, we just watched the Artemis mission lift off from earth on it’s way to the Moon. We stood in front of the TV and watched history in the making. It is a profound moment in history as humanity once again looks toward the heavens, with Artemis II astronauts currently bound for the moon on NASA’s first crewed lunar voyage in decades.

There are many people who feel that spending time, money, and energy going to the moon is far less important than all of the problems here on earth. We understand there’s a lot we could be doing here on earth  to  resolve very important and impactful problems. But humanity is at its best when it looks towards heaven.

While this mission represents a historic reach into the cosmos, millions of people across the globe are simultaneously looking toward heaven in a spiritual sense, marking the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time of the year for Christians.

We celebrate this time of year to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. On the cross, Jesus became sin and was crucified so that all of  humanity could be saved. But Jesus was also resurrected, and we see the angels speaking to the disciples as they looked into the empty tomb:
Luke 24:1-6 (NIV)

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.

2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.

5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:

Today, around the world, God’s people are celebrating Jesus through traditional processions, Palm leaves (Palm Sunday), and Communion.  The Associated Press illustrates a vibrant and global tapestry of celebrations:

He Is Risen Indeed!
