God Has Saved Me

Listen

I had a recent incident where I got into an argument with a very close family member. We weren’t talking for a few days. So after a few days, the Lord moved on my heart to send this family member a text apologizing, offering to buy them lunch. Right after that the Lord showed me something miraculous. The message to me was clear, I need to show love the way God has showed love to me.

It is easy for me to find guilt in another person. But in my murder mystery mentality, I am always looking for the guilty party, I’m always looking for the one who committed wrong. What I found is that I am the guilty party. All I need to do to find the offender is to hold up a mirror. It is my sin that should be found out. As the old song says: “Not my brother, or my mother, it’s me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer. “

Even the Hymn writer John Newton, wrote “Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me“. We speed past this word in the verse without even considering its meaning. The Merriam-Webster dictionary provides us with two definitions of the word “Wretch”. (1) a miserable person : one who is profoundly unhappy or in great misfortune, (2) a base, despicable, or vile person. You will find me there in the second definition. I am guilty and under the sentence of death, and only Jesus can redeem me.

As the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 7:24-25 (NIV) ‘What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.’

With most blog posts that I write, or lessons I give, I encourage the audience for their need for forgiveness. However, today I am considering the consequences of my own actions. Today I’m writing specifically about my own sin condition. I recognize my total need for forgiveness, and I acknowledge and praise God who has provided me total forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

We Need Prayer and Fasting to Confront Evil

This blog is inspired by my wife Pastor June R. McIntosh, who preached a sermon this weekend to our congregation about “Why Faith?”. In the new year, we are going to examine different aspects of “Why Faith”.This is not a study questioning faith, but seeking to understand it in our lives.

The Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”
