Imagine the audacious Elijah, three years after predicting a drought, returns and puts the prophets of Baal to the test. He asks them, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; if Baal is God, follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21) This challenge leads to a gripping showdown to see which deity can ignite fire on an altar. Despite their fervor, Baal’s prophets fail. Elijah, however, places twelve stones, symbolic of Israel, on his altar, douses it in water, and prays. He implores God to reveal Himself, to rekindle the people’s faith in Him. (1 Kings 18:36-37)
The result? Fire consumes the altar, even the water in the trench, demonstrating God’s awe-inspiring glory. This spectacle leaves the crowd speechless and humbled, chorusing, “The Lord-He is God! The Lord-He is God!” (1 Kings 18:39) Isn’t it true that witnessing God’s Glory stirs something within us, compelling us to sing His praises? This irresistible fire drew the Israelites back to their God. Yet, the glory of God isn’t confined to grand displays. It’s also found in a gentle whisper that calms your fears.
At times we are blinded to the fact that God’s Glory is all around us. We become fearful, and the enemy uses it to tear us down. Remember what the prophet Elisha said to his servant when they were surrounded by the enemy,” Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16) So then, let’s acknowledge God’s omnipresence. Even when surrounded by adversaries, victory is ours if we truly see God’s army. Let’s pray “Open our eyes, Lord, so that we may see.” Let us bask in the thrilling victory of God’s Glory!
